Training at Intensity Works means doing “functional” exercises, those which train the body to better perform the types of movements used in everyday life. For instance, climbing stairs, carrying packages, lifting children, and even getting up from the floor will become easier and more natural for your body.
Some of the functional exercises we use are bodyweight exercises like squats and push-ups. In addition, we use a variety of functional training tools such as heavy ropes, sandbags, and kettlebells in our classes. These tools increase the effectiveness of our workouts, providing maximum results in as little time as possible.
A kettlebell is a traditional Russian cast iron weight that looks like a cannonball with a handle. Kettlebells have been used for centuries in Russia to develop extraordinary strength, flexibility and endurance among the Russian Special Forces, athletes and others who train with them. These amazing tools were introduced to the United States in the 1990s and were quickly adopted by elite US military and law enforcement personnel for the incredible results they deliver. More recently, kettlebells have become a popular training tool for top athletes as well as martial artists and anyone looking to reach peak physical condition. For us, kettlebells provide an exceptional method for fat burning, functional strength building and all around fitness.
Training with kettlebells is challenging but not difficult. However, for safety and confidence, each client receives individual or small group instruction in kettlebell basics prior to attending her first class. Intensity Works proudly offers kettlebell instruction utilizing the very efficient “Russian Hardstyle”.
